What is the Gospel?
The Gospel means Good News.
Who doesn’t like to hear good news?
Everyone likes good news, but this “Gospel,” this “good news” is a message that has been changing people’s lives for some 2000 years.
It’s a message from the Bible of hope, grace, freedom, forgiveness and bad news.
What??
The Bible tells us about God, who created the world and everything we see and all the tiny particles we cannot see. He created it, ordered it and made it good. He formed humans and gave them life—and a heart, mind and spirit. He gave them the ability to care for things, to create, and to choose freely. (If you want to find this in the Bible, you can look for these verse: Genesis 1, Galatians 5:17)
God created humans to love them and relate to them.
God gave us commands and guidelines for our safety. But we chose our own way over God’s. Choosing disobedience has led to corruption to become the nature of every heart since. This corruption is called sin. (Genesis 2:16-17, James 1:14-16)
We think of sin as a crime or a big thing. Sin is any impurity, any stain on the heart. It can be “little things” like dishonesty or moral impurity or jealousy or selfishness. These things create a barrier between us and God that cannot be broken. (1 John 3:4, Romans 3:23, Galatians 5:19-21)
This is the bad news. It is that because of our sinfulness as humans, death, disease and tragedy has come into this world. We see it in the news every day. We know the terrible feelings of shame, guilt, loneliness and despair, which is not something God had planned for us to know. Not only that, after death we are forever separated from the God who created us, destined for hell as a result of our own sinful choices. (Romans 5:12, Romans 6:23, Romans 8:20, Isaiah 59:2, Matthew 13:41-42, Hebrews 9:27)
what cure could there possibly be for this?
God knew that His creation was unable to fix the stain on the inside of their hearts. (Mark 7:23, Isaiah 1:18)
But the Bible also teaches us that though God is pure and is a God of justice, He is also a God of love. God had the most beautiful plan to redeem His creation and restore the relationship between Himself and man. (Psalm 97:2)
Being a God of holiness and justice, God must judge sin. The Bible teaches that the result of that sin is death.
The Bible tells us that from the beginning, God had planned to both take our punishment and also free us from the stain of sin in our heart. God Himself would pay the price to redeem us! (Jeremiah 2:22, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Titus 1:1-2, Ephesians 1:3-5)
God sent His Son, Jesus, to this world to accomplish this plan. Jesus, being fully God and in becoming a human as well, lived a perfect life and taught people about God, who He called Father. In becoming a human, Jesus was able to relate to us and to know our pain, though He resisted all temptation. In being God, He had the power to heal, restore and forgive the sins of people like you and me. (Hebrews 7:26-27, Hebrews 4:15)
Jesus paid the price for our sin. We can read in history, as well as in the Bible, that Jesus was betrayed by a friend, persecuted by jealous religious leaders and was whipped, beaten and put to horrible death by crucifixion by the Roman government and with the approval of the crowds that demanded his death. (Acts 2:22-23, Matthew 26:14-16, Matthew 27)
Even as He was laying His life down in agony, Jesus knew the purpose was to give you the gift of freedom from the price of your sins. (Luke 23:34, John 19:28-30)
However, again we read in the Bible and in history, that another miracle occurred! God, pleased with Jesus’ perfect sacrifice, raised Him from the dead to life! (Acts 2:23-24, Romans 1:4)
In the same way, God gives us new life after paying the price of our sins! Not only has God wiped away all the stains of our heart, but He fills us with eternal life, mercy, hope for the future and grace. We can spend every day fresh with the goodness of God. Even death is nothing to fear now because we know that we can be with God in heaven after that day. (1 Corinthians 15:21-23, Hebrews 5:9, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Hebrews 4:16)
This doesn’t mean that we are now perfect or that our problems go away. But it does mean that our relationship with God is restored. He will dwell in our hearts and we can bring to Him any problem and find His presence with us in the things we face in our world! (Romans 5:9-10, Hebrews 4:16)

It’s the Good News, and we’re glad you’ve heard it.
That’s not the end!!
So, what should we do with this news? Well, the Bible calls this message a free gift. It must be received. It is received through prayer and talking to God. (Romans 6:23)
How can we do that? Here is a simple prayer, it can be said wherever you are reading this from. You don’t need to go some place special or do anything in particular, just say it from your heart:
Dear God, thank you for your good news. I believe it. I want to receive this free gift of forgiveness and eternal life. Thank you for dying on the cross to pay for my sins. Please forgive my sins. Please come into my heart and make me new. I want to follow you and start a new life with you Jesus. Amen.
